1Application and Screening
Submit an application. No Harvard affiliation is required for application. Our members will evaluate your application based on the information you supply. We usually select 3 companies to present at each of our quarterly pitch nights. We encourage referrals and recommendations from our members.
2Pitch Night & Evaluation
Presentations are made in person or Zoom by the CEO. A schedule of upcoming pitch nights is here. If there is sufficient interest following pitch night, those angels will reach out to you. The angels will conduct further due diligence on your company.
3Investment & Mentorship
Angels invest individually, but as part of an investment round with the same terms and timing. We also can syndicate our investments with other HBS Alumni Angel chapters and other local angel networks. Angel financing rounds can be up to $1 million or more, including syndicated investors.
FAQ
What are the criteria for startup selection?
Every 6 months, the selection committee reviews 50+ deals to select 2-4 of the most promising startups. The selected companies will be invited to present at that quarter’s meeting to our angel investor community. Members interested in investing will then pursue due diligence, either individually or as a group, and make investment decisions individually. We are seeking startups with the following criteria:
- Early stage startup seeking between $250K and $2M
- Located or plans to locate in Southeast Asia
- Strong founder team
- Clear competitive advantage over peers in their space
- Markets include B2C, B2B, SaaS, medical, education and others, and exclude vice activities
- Demonstrated proof of concept and can articulate the revenue strategy clearly
- Priority goes to applicants with revenue traction, such as users, clients, and customers
- Harvard affiliation is not required
What are the criteria for angel membership?
Participation in programming is restricted to members only. Prospective members must meet the following minimum requirements to apply:
- Be a graduate of Harvard University or an associated Harvard school
- Have a serious intention of funding ventures seeking angel investments.
Members should plan to make a meaningful investment into one or more presenting companies annually, although there will be no contractual commitment to do so. Keep in mind that angel investments generally do not fall below $10,000 per deal. Note that HBS Alumni Angels is not a fund. Each investor invests on their own behalf.
